The Ancora Foundation Scholarships for International Studies

The Ancora Foundation is a philantrophic organization founded by entrepreneur Gita Irawan Wirjawan with an overriding objective: to light fire in the minds of the young in Indonesia through International Studies.

Producing the best minds and achieving universal education enrollment are imperatives. It will build human capital so that Indonesia can play a greater leadership role in the world, commensurate with its size and history. Through scholarships for Indonesians to attend International Studies in the best universities at home and abroad, the foundation hopes to develop a creme de la creme who will ultimately become instruments of change for Indonesia. It is part of a two-pronged approach that also seeks to provide basic International Studies to the masyarakat across the distended archipelago which over time will widen and deepen the country’s talent pool.

The foundation has thus far launched the following International Studies :

  1. Ancora Foundation Graduate Fellowship Fund for International Studies at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University
    • This is our flagship program. One scholarship is offered annually to for an Indonesian to attend the Edward S. Mason Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
  2. Ancora Foundation Graduate Fellowship Fund for International Studies  at the University of Cambridge
    • This fellowship is a collaboration between the Ancora Foundation and Cambridge Overseas Trust to provide two fellowships annually for Indonesians to study for a one-year master’s program in any field at the University of Cambridge.
  3. Ancora Foundation Graduate Fellowship Fund for International Studies  at the University of Oxford
    • One scholarship is offered annually for an MSc in Environmental Change and Management at Oxford University.
  4. Ancora Foundation Graduate Fellowship Fund for International Studies  at the Nanyang Technological University
    • One scholarship is offered each year for a one-year masters program at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
  5. Total Indonesie E&P – Ancora Foundation Graduate Fellowship for International Studies at the Sciences Po Paris
    • One scholarship is offered every two years for a Master of Public Affairs at the Sciences Po Paris.
  6. Ancora Foundation Scholarship at Universitas Paramadina
    • Every year, a select number of scholarships are set aside for Indonesians planning to study at Universitas Paramadina
  7. Ancora Foundation Scholarship at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara
    • One scholarship is offered annually for a four-year undergraduate program at the Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN).
  8. The Ancora Scholarship Program in West Java
    • The foundation offers 20 undergraduate scholarships annually for Indonesians studying in universities across West Java. They are granted tuition fees and living expenses for a maximum of four years of undergraduate education.
  9. The Khazanah Asia Scholarship in Collaboration with Ancora Foundation
    • The Ancora-Khazanah Asia Scholarship is a collaboration between the Ancora Foundation and Yayasan Khazanah to allow Indonesians to pursue a four-year undergraduate for International Studies at leading Malaysian universities.
  10. Sekolah Rakyat Ancora
    • The Ancora Foundation is in partnership with the Indonesian Heritage Foundation to establish 1,000 community kindergartens called Sekolah Rakyat Ancora across Indonesia. It aims to provide access to preschool education to about 20,000 children a year.

 

 

International Studies now available :

Ancora Foundation Graduate Fellowship at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University

One scholarship is offered each year for a one-year masters program at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

The RS International Studies has acquired a reputation as a leading research and graduate teaching institution in strategic and international affairs in Asia. It offers masters programs in international relations, international political economy, strategic studies and Asian studies. Each program is research-focused. Students will find the courses useful for diplomacy and policy-making.

The International Studies has been successful in attracting top students, including many holding key government positions. These include promising diplomats and military officers from Indonesia, China, Vietnam and other regional countries.

Selection Criteria

International Studies applicants should have (a) a confirmed acceptance at the RSIS (b) an excellent academic record with a first degree equivalent to a good Second Class (Upper) Honors or higher; (c) a very good command of the English Language; (d) at least five years full time relevant work experience; and (e) assessed to have outstanding potential for leadership in government, business, or civil society after graduation.

Applications for Academic Year 2012/2013 (July Admission) will open from November 1, 2011 to Feb 28, 2012. Terms and Conditions

Each fellowship for International Studies is tenable for one year only for full-time students on the Master of Public Administration program. The successful candidate is expected to complete his/her studies within the tenable period.

Each scholarship will cover the following:

  • Tuition and other compulsory fees (as specified by NTU);
  • Monthly stipend; and
  • Return air-ticket (economy class)
