Yayasan Sime Darby
Yayasan Sime Darby is a foundation that was set up in 1982. The foundation works closely with the Sime Darby Group and its Divisions in areas of common concern.
Yayasan Sime Darby’s activities are guided by a policy of non-discrimination, to ensure that the funds at its disposal benefit all deserving parties.
At the intellectual level, the Foundation dedicates itself to the promotion of scholarship and knowledge advancement in areas related Sime Darby’s core business where such initiatives can advance knowledge, capacity, improve understanding and appreciation of the environment and ecosystems and enhance the welfare of the people.
The Sime Darby Foundation shall also promote and sponsor programs relating to sports, culture and the arts.
Deeply concerned over the rapid erosion of the environment due to pollution and indiscriminate exploitation of the forest, the Foundation dedicates itself to a program of conservation to preserve the environment from further degradation and to conservation of ecosystems. In particular the Foundation will devote resources available to it to the rehabilitation of rivers and streams.
To advance these goals, the Foundation’s program supports the following activities:
- COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
- EDUCATION
- YOUTHS, SPORTS AND RECREATION
- ARTS AND CULTURE
- CONSERVATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND PROTECTION OF ECOSYSTEMS
Yayasan Sime Darby supports Education
The aim of this programme is to promote educational achievement at various levels of education and to advance research and study in areas related to Sime Darby’s core businesses. The programme comprises of five types of assistance:
YSD Excellence Scholarship Programme
Scholarship recipients are able to attend courses both local and overseas at pre-university, undergraduate, post graduate levels, at selected universities identified by Sime Darby.
YSD Public Policy Programme
In promoting good public policy, YSD sponsors potential leaders from the Civil Service for exposure in development and formulation of public policy.
YSD 'Star' Scholarship Programme
This programme sponsors young, talented individuals who have made significant contribution to the nation in the fields of sports, music, environment and science/ research.
YSD Bursary Programme
The programme awards students from low income families who have achieved satisfactory academic performance. The sponsorship is for full-time undergraduate and diploma courses.
YSD Skill Enrichment Programme
This programme identifies vocationally inclined students to undertake technical courses at Sime Darby skill centres i.e. Sime Darby Plantation Academy, Sime Darby Industrial Academy and Sime Darby Nursing & Health Sciences College.
Sime Darby Foundation Education Scholarship Programme
